"Keep Smiling" by Megan Curtis

“Cheer up, love,” they say as I pass them in the street. “It may never happen.”

“Don’t look so miserable!” they complain as I fill my bags with shopping.

“Is someone being a grumpy sod?” they chuckle as I tap away at the computer.

No time for frowns. Got to look on the bright side. Smile. Smile! SMILE!

Such insistent happiness.

But it’s ok. I’ve thought of a way to satisfy them. It’s really quite simple.

Two hooks and a line of elastic that circles the back of my head.

The blood is a minor distraction.

Look who’s smiling now.
